April - June 2008 Report

Dear Friends:

We rejoice knowing that our God is in control and He will complete the great things he has started. I am humbled that anytime I report to you, there are many good things happening.

Continued Training:

The eight men who were studying Hermeneutics successfully completed the course and are willing to take further studies. We also have more individuals interested to join. Most of those who receive any kind of training are involved in ministry. They take precious time from work or study to join our weekly evening classes. In Melbourne, this is rare. (The two pictures on the top left are some of the students taking a final exam.)

Young Adults Outreach:

We held a weekend retreat for singles and young married couples. We had over 60 people who attended from various parts of the state. Some believers brought friends with them who were able to hear the gospel. The Lord has opened many doors, especially, among this age group. We deal with agnostics and atheists, and with those of religious backgrounds. In addition most young adults are 2nd or 3rd generation Australians who struggle with the balance of their family traditions and life in Melbourne. On the other hand, some carry the scars of broken homes and abuse. Amidst all this, there is a positive side which brings a need to know unconditional love that in only in Christ Jesus. (The remaining pictures on the left are from the retreat with Ryan Connelan as the Speaker. Ryan pastors a church in Sydney that was started by an American missionary)

Young Adults Taking Leadership:

One of the most beautiful things we are seeing is young adults taking leadership in various parts of the ministry. The Retreat was completely organized and planned by young adults with the exception of the choice of the speakers. These young adults help so much in various parts of the Sunday ministry, including ministering to youth, teaching, music, setting up and packing, transportation and more. The culture is challenging for me, but they are serving their way and doing a great job.

Discipleship:

We have a young lady teaching another young lady who recently trusted Christ through the Young Adults ministry. She has asked to be baptized and be part of the ministry.

Since we do not have our own building and we rent the school by the hour, the only permanent rent we have is a small office in a community centre. Many doors have opened by interacting with patrons and I have been holding an informal Bible study based on the many questions people are asking. It is a group of 4-8 young people who are searching. Please pray for all these open doors that individuals will have a proper understanding of the gospel.

THANK YOU for all the birthday cards (Silas'), gifts, continued support (amidst huge drop in US Dollar which effects us greatly), fervent prayers, and mostly your acceptance of us.
